The correct way to work out an hourly amount is:

£18,000 divided by 365 = 49.315068 they multiply by 7 = 345 20 (this gives you your weekly amount) then divide by 39 = £8.85 per hour.

So there you are not a bit dim as mostof them didn`t know the correct way either.

Normally you would get 20-25 days holiday.  Call it 25.  So you will work 47 weeks of the year.

47 weeks at 39 hours is 1833.

18000/1833 is £9.82 per hour.

£18,000 / 52wks = £346.15 Per Week

Then you divide

£346.15 / 39hrs=£8.88 (Rounded)

Don't forget this is before tax and National Insurance deductions

EDIT - Cindy T - being a boss does not make you an expert. The Direct Gov website and The Inland Revenue all calculate wages by the above method.

It's £8.88 or £8.87 depending on how you count it.

The guy above you says it's over £9 hasn't taken into consideration the fact that your annual holiday should be factored in to your hourly rate.

I also know that some jobs can be quite skilled without needing even basic maths skills, so I'm not going to slag you off for not being able to work that out.

However if you're getting £18k in a maths-related job and couldn't work that out you should be fired.
