  1. If you are doing work of equal value, it would be fair.

However, your employer will use every factor possible to get you at the cheapest price they can, then make you sign a confidentiality agreement not to discuss your pay rate with others.

That way, you'll never know that the person next to you is getting twice what you are for your dedication and hard work.

    Cheers :-)

  2. In my line of work it depends on what level you are, what your subject area is, department, and number of years teaching.

  3. People get paid based on VALUE to the employer.

Value means how much the company needs you and how easy or difficult it is to REPLACE you.

ALL wages are based on that and that alone.

  4. Motivation, talent, originality and company loyalty should all be considered.

    I often use this metaphor

" just because someone has a drivers license ,does not mean they are a good driver."

  5. That paper dose not mean a thing. It is what you produce is what counts. Man or woman. If you do not know the work and can not do the work why should you get paid the same. If a person can do the work but dose not have the paper  should they be paid more, Dose a piece of paper mean that you know the work?

  6. I agree with Mike T.

An employer has no reason to pay a man more than a woman, if he could get women at 25% less pay, he wouldn't hire a man, period.

This alone disproves the whole "pay gap" myth, simple economics.

An employer will pay me what i am worth to the company or whatever i am being hired at. He will look at my enthusiasm, how hard i work, whether or not i go the extra mile, whether or not i have experience in my field, and how good i am at my job.

I have a degree in computer science and work at a company that designs computer upgrades. I am very good at my job, as a result i make more money than the guy who has the exact same degree as me, but A, doesn't know as much as me and B doesn't work as hard as me.

We both hold the same position.

  7. If you have same degree...why not? As long as you're putting in the same (or higher level of) work.

  8. A degree is one thing people offer to a position.  Also want to consider experience & personal skills ( ie.  interpersonal communication/ public speaking....).

Even though you have the same degree - actual job titles & roles may differ.

You can't make a straight across comparsion of wage based on the degree alone.

  9. Research shows that both men and women are equally hard working. So it's a yes and no thing. Experience should also be looked at. If one person has more experience then the other then that person should get paid more.

  10. That would depend on the kind of degree, experience and qualifications.  No, I don't think secret negotiations are a good thing because when its found out that person X was paid much more than person Y with the same credentials and experience for the same job - there is a revolution.   Everybody loses faith in the employer and their attitude to their job reflects it.

People talk; its a fact of life.
