Question:

If you enable pop-up blockers won't it open you up to viruses and spyware?

My family and I love to play games like pogo online. Many of the games alert us that we obviously have a pop-up blocker, and we can't seem to access some games. We are advised to enable our pop-up blockers. We have not done so because we thought it would open us up to viruses and spyware.

Also, is there a problem when you enable cookies for certain websites like stores (ex: lowes, etc) to access products?

Please advise, and thanks to all in advance.

  1. you can disable popup blockers on sites you know are ligitimate sites.  it's the p**n and pirate sites that get you with the virii.  Cookies are fine for most any site.  Just run CCleaner once every day or so to delete them all.

  2. I disable my popups because they are annoying.  If you are worried about viruses and spyware then you need to get some antivirus software on your computer.  AVG free edition works great, and its free!  Don't worry about accepting cookies from brand name sites. You can always set you internet browser options to delete them when you close the browser anyways.

  3. Hey I play pogo, too. When pogo asks you to enable popups, its because your computer reads things as an ad. For example, if you want to look at someone's profile on Pogo, your computer thinks that window opening up is a "pop-up ad". It will say something like..."Whoa!it looks like your computer doesn't allow pop-ups". Pogo wants you to allow pop ups for their site only. Pogo is a trusted site and they are not sending you a virus or spyware (they just use smaller windows for things like profiles or jackpot spins or to open up tables). So it is safe to enable them for JUST Pogo. If your family members are all Club Pogo members you wont  have ads or intermissions to slow things down. Here is a link to try Club Pogo for free:

    http://pogo.com/quickandsimple

It gives you 30 days of membership, you don't need a credit card for this offer but it does expire Aug 11th.

Here is a link for Pogo Help. You can check your popup settings and also java and other things under the section that says TOOL BOX.

    Hope this helps!Have fun!

  4. Any site demanding popups I would never return to. This is one easy way to push malware onto your machine. Cookies are fine on reputable sites.

  5. About the pop-up blocker, it's best if you're using firefox to prevent a bunch of nasty stuff such as: spyware and other thing in that field. In firefox all you have to do is go to tools>options>content. Right beside block pop-ups there should be a button that says 'Exceptions' click that and type in http://www.pogo.com/ then see if that helps. If not, when in pogo it should ask you to allow pop-ups somehow i forget what it asks you but generally at the top when you try going into a room it will be like a banner that pops up and says something and follow the directions.

About the cookies, there is no problem, all it does it remember your information so you can easily login to their site without having to re-enter your login info
