If you extract the DVD player's diode and apply electricty to it, would the resulting beam be dangerous?

Like, is it a strong enough invisible infra red beam that can fry your eyes out? Is it infra red to begin with? I'm talking about the player not the burner. I've heard it that the infra red beam can damage your eyes and testicles even in indirect exposure...

  1. Your eyes are what you should worry about. If you see your pants smoking, then it is time to worry about other parts. Your eyes, you won't see any smoke, no warning, you will just suddenly have damaged vision, that is permanent.

    But my understanding is that the laser you are talking about is not powerful enough to cause damage. But i could be wrong.
