If you filed bankruptcy in '02, is there a way to get it off your record after 7 yrs instead of the new 10 yr?

Shouldn't there be some sort of grandfather clause for those who filed in '02? It doesn't seem right that it affects your credit report now for 10 years.

  1. It's always been on your report 10 years...nothing changed with the new laws except the median income amount and credit counseling.  


  2. There are no ex post facto laws in the US – i.e. a law cannot apply to an event that preceded it. The law you’re under is the one in place at the time you went bankrupt.
