If you find money in your house can you keep it?

I have the same question. I found money hidden in a house I co-owned with someone who passed away. We split years ago and he lived in it. He didn't take care of himself or it. He passed away and the house was so bad code enforcement got involved. It will cost thousands to fix. Am I under any legal obligation to give it to his legal heirs or since it is my house, am I entitled to keep it? I sure could use it!
