Question:

If you get a degree in Environmental Science...?

I really want to do active research and actually end up as PhD scientist-that would be the best thing ever. I also want to be able to talk to people and present my ideas and findings and help spread the message of conservation. Should I go for a basic degree in biology, then get a masters in Environmental Science, or should I go straight for the Environmental Science? What other paths could I take? Any thoughts at all?

  1. whenever you go for masteral it is always in line with your degree in college...in other words you have to go for the basic first as a basic step for you to achieve it.....

  2. Prepare to sell your soul.

"Environmental Science" is such a politicized field these days that the "science" part has been sacrificed in the name of obtaining funding.

  3. It will probably be easier to get into a PhD program if your undergrad degree is in biology than in environmental science.  but really it depends on what specifically you want to do/study/accomplish, what school options are available to you, etc.

    Good luck...

  4. i'd go for the biology degree first, its a better degree and keeps your options open.  you could maybe look at geography or geology too.

  5. You should look in Geology. There are many disciplines within geology that you can specialize in. Also, the previous comments about environmental science not being scienced based are very true.

With geology, the science is there to make you credible. The great part is that geology is multidisciplinary so you cover a little about everthing from ecology, biology, chemistry, physics, climatology etc.

And geologists are hard to come by, so there is always a need for them in colleges and "think tanks" and within the government helping to make important policy decisions.

    I may be a bit biased...I am a geologist
