The reason I'm asking is I'm thinking of switching midway in my junior year to a virtual school, and I want to know is if by doing that, when employers see that i transfered out to homeschooling will they look at me really different or will it be no different than getting my diploma from finishing the highschool I'm in now?

  1. My son graduated an online charter school and now attends a private university with scholarships

If you are home schooled how do you get a diploma? It really depends on how you are home schooled. If you attend an online charter school like k12 or Connections Academy, they will provide you with a diploma and transcripts. My son attended an online charter school and now attends the University of Dayton ( a private college ) and he has scholarships as well no different then if he had attended a regular public school or a private school.

If you are doing traditional homeschooling then chances are you will not receive a diploma or transcripts in the sense that most people think of them. The important thing is NOT the diploma. The transcripts are the ONLY really important thing. The transcripts are really the only thing the colleges and possibly employers want to look at.

  2. I have never had an employer look at my diploma.  If you put down the name of your school on your application, I doubt that the employer will know or question what type school it is.

My husband graduated from a school in Kansas that sounds like a military school name but it is a public school.  I graduated from a school that has a name that sounds like a  Christian school but it is a public school.   My son is homeschooled and the name for our school sounds like an exclusive private school but we are relaxed eclectic learners.

A name is a name.  A diploma is a piece of paper.  An education is very valuable.

  3. Technically, a virtual school is *not* homeschooling, as it's still a public school.

If anything, if you study at home, you'll look even better to prospective employers.  :-)  This is especially true if you do any volunteer work or community service.

  4. A highschool diploma is a highschool diploma. As long as you have one, it doesn't matter where you got it from. Plus, it would be discrimination on the part of the employer if they were to discriminate against you based on where you recieved your diploma from.

  5. Not at all. They look to see that you have completed high school. Then they only care about college and what level of degree you have achieved. Think about it, if that were true, then which public high school or which private school you went to would also be taken into consideration and it is not.

  6. I know my employer would. it looks you couldn't get the most basic of education. oh but employers won't see you transferred unless you tell them. they only want to know you have the high school diploma and where it is from. but they will check if they think you lied.
