ie EWCM etc, but you don't get a thermal shift in your BBT, does that definitely mean that you didn't ovulate?

  1. im doing fertilty treatments and my dr said for me not to do bbt .that your temp can change for many different reason during the night. So I just used answer ovulation test. And get a progesterone test on day 21 and ive ovulated

  2. Pretty much. You'll have to see that shift to confirm ovulation. That said, an opk will 'predict', not 'signal' ovulation. So after a positive, you should expect ovulation within 12-36 hours. EWCM can last for a few days, too, leading up to ovulation.  (I typically have 5 days of it before ovulation.)

It is entirely possible for your body to gear up to ovulate and then back off. Be sure to keep temping to watch for that shift! Good luck to you!

And, to the other poster, if she's not seeing a specialist, then she can't get the test done.   BBT is a very reliable indicator of ovulation if done correctly. My Dr. highly recommends it and asks to see my charts.

  3. The only way to know for sure whether or not you have ovulated is to see that thermal shift. OPKs can show you whether you have a LH surge, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the egg is released. Your body can gear up to ovulate and then not ovulate. In this situation, you would still get EWCM.

However, it is worth bearing in mind that there are things that can upset your temperature readings. Do you ever have to get up in the night with your toddler? I am in that situation, and so I can't chart because it would be too unreliable.
