and the person who gave it to you can't remember their password (and they are the administrator) is there any way to get past that or do a clean re-boot or anything?

  1. I once saw a tutorial where a person booted from a CD and extracted all of the XP user passwords in under 30 seconds.  I can't seem to find it, but one of these video tutorials should be able to help.

PS. Don't do anything illegal, don't use these techniques on a computer that does not belong to you.

  2. clean re-boot it, never use a used computer without cleaning it out first, unless it has some program worht a lot of money LOL :)

  3. I suggest you just reinstall the OS and start all over as the user might have private information or other stuff on there they forgot about.

  4. Format and re install OS,anyway there is nothing on the computer that is yours.
