In other words, is a Class III license good for the purchase of any NFA firearm or device, or do you pay the $200 tax which is only good for that particular purchase. If it's the later, I'm assuming that you have to wait for approval before you take possession of the NFA item.

  1. The Class III dealer can have these items in stock and not have to pay the $200 tax per item. The Class III dealer can buy, sell and trade with other dealers and they keep track of the NFA items similarly to regular 01 FFL dealers with firearms in an Acquisition and Disposal Record Bound Book.

  2. no you do not need a ffl to own a machine gun destructive device or howitzer you need a tax transfer stamp,1 for each machine gun one for each howitzer but 1 for each howitzer round that fires a projectile or 1 for each destructive device(hand grenades)thats why most people do not throw real hand grenades it cost $200.00 a piece

  3. Everything mongo said but it sounds like you're looking for a way around the tax stamp hassle so ill add this...

You cant just list your home address, the BATFE doesn't really approve of people getting an FFL unless they actually have a store location. Then if you do actually have a location they do their very best to close you down every chance they get. The hassle and cost of aquiring and keeping an FFL is way more than getting a tax stamp.

  4. No, if you have your class III FFL you don't have to "qualify" for each purchase, nor do you have to pay the $200 for each purchase, but you will have to pay it if you are buying from an individual owner.  AND you will have to have a licensed business premises in accordance with the laws of your state, county, city, etc.   Also, you will have to pay a $500 Special Occupations Tax each year you hold the Class III FFL

  5. Thee FFL doesn't really have much to do with you.

You will need to find a dealer that has an FFL so he can sell and transfer an auto or suppressor to you. In order to do such a thing, you would have to do some paper work (form 4), get fingerprinted, get photographed, get your form 4 signed by an ATF approved individual, pay $200 per NFA item, and do a fair amount of waiting.

So, yes, each time you go through the same process if you want to own another NFA item.

  6. FFLs come in many types, only a few directly deal with supressors or machineguns.

A class 3 FFL is for people who BUY OR SELL supressors and/or machineguns.   However, Class 3 FFLs are for people who are actively buying and selling, running a gun shop etc.  It is a license to DEAL not just to own.  If you aren't actively dealing, you don't get to have a class 3 FFL.  Owning one for your personal use is something entirely different, and requires you to only buy machineguns on the registry, pay a $200 tax, and get your chief LEO to sign off on your toy.
