If you arrive at England and have to wait a few hours for your next flight to Africa (for example), can you leave the airport in England ..visit..then come back to the airport?

  1. Sure can.  In fact, many people leave a day or two in between flights just for this purpose.  Just make sure the country you wish to wander around in doesn't require you to have a visa.  Sometimes you can get one right there for a short stay, sometimes you can't.  If you are from Canada, you just need to look at the website for the UK consular or immigration and see if a Canadian needs a visa to visit there.  I'm guessing that you won't.  I would also look up pilot websites, as they have lot's of information on things to do during a short layover.  I would speak to the flight crew on your flight over there as well.  Who knows, if they like you they may invite you to join them for dinner with the rest of the crew.  Have fun, and good luck.

  2. depends on the country of your citizenship. if you are not from the us or any of the shingle countries you wont be able to.

  3. It's not as easy as has been implied. You'll have to pass out through customs and immigration, and immigration will be curious as to why you're trying to enter the country without luggage - which you are, as your bags will not be coming into groundside. So will security.

They may believe you, they may not,and you may even find you'll be so long explaining yourself that your "spare time" has evaporated.

Best to ask in the transit area when you arrive.

  4. YES you can

I travel regular through Gatwick when bags are checked through to their final destination. Just walk for baggage reclaim and Arrivals. Then you're out the terminal once gone through customs. You can have a cigarette or whatever.

Then head for Departures, through security. Give yourself plenty of time as it can get busy.

If you are not in departures when bags checked on your bags will just be offloaded and you have more time in London to check out.

  5. as long as you go thru customs...you should be able too

  6. YES

I went to London for the day then went back to heathrow
