  1. If you get the cold sore virus, you will have it for the rest of your life.  But it is not really a big deal.  You just need to be sensible about a few precautions.

Many of us already have the cold sore virus dormant in our bodies, and never have a flare up of cold sores.  We contracted it as children, as it is a very common virus, and children pick it up easily as they often share food and drinks, and may be less concerned about hand washing and hygiene.   Cold sores can be transmitted even when the person does not have a cold sore, though it is less likely to happen then.

There is no over-the-counter medication or home remedy that cures cold sores.  Only time will take care of that.  But there is a good prescription medication for cold sores.  It will make them go away much faster, and as a result of taking this medication you will have far fewer outbreaks of cold sores.

The absolute best treatment for cold sores is a prescription medication in pill form called Valtrex.  It was intended for genital herpes, but cold sores are caused by the same family of viruses, and Valtrex stops colds sores in their tracks.  None of the other treatments come close to the effectiveness of Valtrex, not the ointment Zovirax, and certainly not Abreva or anything else.  Ask your doctor about it to see if you would be a good candidate for this medication.  My doctor prescribed it for me for cold sores about five years ago and after taking it only a couple of times I hardly ever get a cold sore any more, and before Valtrex I was having several attacks a year.  On the rare occasions that I do get one now, it is gone almost immediately when I take the medication - in about a day.    In the meantime, here are a couple of informative links.

  2. the potential is certainly there...I would forgo oral s*x with that young lady from now on if I were you...she can transmit that virus whether she has an active sore or not.  I suspect you don't want genital herpes.

  3. A cold sore is HSV1-herpes simplex virus.  It can be transferred if you kissed her while she had one.  It is also possible that she didn't give it to you.  If you did get it-you will have it forever.

Approximately 80% of the population have HSV.  From now on please avoid kissing while your girlfriend has an outbreak.  There is always the possibility of spreading it through asymptomatic shedding so even if there is NOT an outbreak it can be spread.

HSV1 can be spread to the genitals during oral s*x.  Please be cautious.

  4. You wouldn't have a cold sore for the rest of your life but if you contracted HSV from her you will have the virus in your system indefinitely.  Herpes is Herpes, the only difference is the location and the stigma attached to Genital Herpes. Both HSV (oral herpes) and HSV2 (genital) are contagious and can be spread with or without symptoms. HSV1 can be spread to the genitals and HSV2 to the mouth via oral s*x.    Most people have 1 form or another of the virus. You may already have the virus and just show no symptoms.

  5. put some cold sore cream on and after a few days, you'll be fine.

  6. The Answer is not very complicated, If she had a sore and you kissed her, You do now have the virus. I can say that confidently because ORAL Herpes can be transmitted via Oral s*x to your p***s or her v****a, then there can be MAJOR problems, like i have. My girlfriend and I both had "cold sores aka mouth herpes" then via sexual contact it was transmitted to our genital area, I was just diagnosed 5 days ago and cried like a baby and am now on Valtrex. But to answer your question, yes you probably definitley have the mouth herpes now aka cold sores. Sorry man, go to a Doctor ASAP too. It takes 14 days for the virus to get all nice and comfy in your body, there is no cure, after a couple weeks go to your doctor and get a full STD blood test. Please do that. Because Cold sores suck, and I know that when you love someone its so hard to not want to be sexually active during those outbreaks and thats where my girlfriend and I went wrong. You can also get Herpes "the mouth version" through sharing a glass or skin contact with an infected person.
