What is the best use of time when getting off the cruise ship? Should I shop? Go on excursions? My goal is to get the most out of my time. Thanks for any advice.

  1. It depends entirely on what shore tour you choice to go on. Some is just transportation tours that gives you half a day in the city centre or on the beach and some are tours that wont give you any shoping time and some will give you half an hour to an hour at a shopping mall. Check the aviable shore tours (should be found at the webpages for your cruise line)

There isnt such a thing as the best use of time. Only you can decide what to do with your time. If youre a shopoholic go the city centre and spent the day at your own. If you dont like shoping dont shop. Just be sure to select the right shore tour. Good luck and have a great journey! Johan

  2. Depends on how long your excursion is and what time the ship leaves port.  I was on a 2 week cruise and we had some excursions that lasted 3 hours.  You should have enough time to shop as long as you manage your time.  Your best bet is to do a morning exursion then go shopping afterwards.  If shopping is close to port within walking distance or at port that is even better.  If shopping is not close to port and you need to taxi to it, then your best bet is to shop instead of going on the excursion.

  3. Depends where you are going. If you are traveling to the Carribean don't waste money on an excursion but rather explore on your own because you can go the exact same places they take you on an excursion for less $$$. However if you are going to Alaska, Hawaii, or Europe excursions may be the way to go because some places in Europe and Alaska are only viewable through tours. Do your research by either searching the ports of calls or go to the cruise lines website, but be aware that the cruise lines will push you to by an excursion at all your stops because htey make a huge profit off excursions. Hope I helped!

  4. depends on you tour time and how long it is. some are only 3 or 4 hours and that gives you time to do other things. I have done 2 tours in the same day ..and also done tour and shopping, or partying in the same day.

  5. I just cancelled one because it only gave me 1 hour left over before having to board the ship. Some of the excursions have long travel time to consider. Even if the actual tour is only 3 hours, there may be 1 hour of travel time tacked on each end.

I would try and do excursions that are 2-3 hours max. That leaves time for other activities without having to rush.

  6. most of the time, there is time to excursion and shop. ive been on two cruises myself.

  7. Most cruise ship excursions have a very limited amount of time for shopping included in the tour.  Usually its 30 to 40 minutes, but many times  less.  But you can also go on a tour and shop afterwards.  What you should do when selecting tours is look closely at the description of what will be covered.  Some tour will tell you that you will have limited or no time for shopping; other will offer the opportunity to be dropped off in town or at a shopping area after the tour.  So no one answer fits all tours.

In addition, whether to tour or shop depends upon what your favorite thing to do is.  If it shopping then you can spend most or all of your port time shopping, especially in a place like St Thomas which is a shoppers paradise.
