  1. It depends on why the student got a 69%. If it was because they missed a lot of class and simply slacked off, then I'd probably give the grade they earned (69%). Also, if the student was really rude to me or showed disrespect, I wouldn't be lenient and give a higher grade. However, if there were extenuating circumstance (such as students having to miss class because of a car accident or death in the family), I'd probably work with that student to figure out why he/she did poorly and give them the benefit of the doubt. Mostly, though, I'd follow standards and give the grade that was earned. The student knows what needs to be done to get a 70% (that's just AVERAGE--anyone can be average!).

  2. it's really not that hard to decide.

look at the kid's HW grade. if he did his HW then round up. if he didn't then don't.

  3. no

  4. Yes.  The passing grade is 70 not 69.  "Almost" doesn't count.

  5. I agree with Oh no!!!.

The other problem is once the teacher gives a 69 a pass, other parents will start saying, "well you passed that guy at 69, why not give my 68 kid a pass..."

A slippery slope as the expression goes.

I suppose a student could ask if there was something else they could do to get a passing mark since it is so close.

    Try asking the teacher.

  6. Yes.  The minimum is the minimum for a reason.

  7. Depends. If you attended class, if you have a good spirit and attitude, if you repsected the teacher and others, if you participated in class, and if you showed your best effort... then the teacher may round your grade up.

If not, then don't hope for it. And if the teacher is very "mathematical" then she/he will leave it as 69%.
