If you had 40 acres in the SW U.S., middle of nowhere, what would you do with it to make money?

This land is in the high desert of California, with Las Vegas, NV only 100 miles away. There are no stores, power is either by solar or generator, no traffic, we do have a phone, no TV cable system, but we have lots of water!

WHY DO ANYTHING WITH IT?  CAN'T YOU JUST BUILD IT UP WITH NATIVE PLANTS AND ENJOY IT AS IT WAS MEANT TO BE....?  WHY DO PEOPLE ALWAYS WANT TO MAKE SOMETHING INTO MONEY????

Sell it on ebay to some other fool.

Build a "watering hole",  for people.  As in a nice bar with

slot machines.  or an cactus farm ran by mustang sally type girls. Make sure you advertise since you are off the beaten path.

You couldn't grow anything if you stood on a bag of fertilizer in that area.

How about drilling for oil?  Do you have any sand or gravel you can mine to sell off to the road crews?

About the only thing I would do with that property is build my RETIREMENT HOME on it...  and forget about doing anything else with it... you could ever keep horses.
