I traveled overseas for business during this period but not since. Do I now have to start an original application because so much time has passed?

  1. NO, as long as u have your expired passport for the pass 15 years, you can just renew.

    Check out this website.

    http://travel.state.gov/passport/passpor...

  2. when you applied for a passport before, you were required to submit supporting documents ...

if you renew your passport, just present the old passport and that is all what is needed ...

to answer your question, NO, you do not have to start an original application.  All you have to do is bring your old passport (that is if it is not lost) and apply for a renewal ... you do not have to bring any other supporting documents. (except perhaps 2 passport size pictures of you taken recently)

  3. See site below to see that it says if you RECEIVED your previous passport within the past 15 years, you may renew it by mail.  Otherwise you need to make out a new application and submit it in person.  See 2nd site for all application info and to print out the forms.  so, since you received your passport in 1984, you need to reapply.

  4. i dont think so, just renew your passport.

  5. Hello, I'd recommend that you go on the State Dept. website and check, however now it is possible to just go to most US post offices and apply in person w/out the need for an appointment, also where I live they can take your picture right there when you apply if you so choose. I'd think that your old passport and a current/valid driver's license should suffice.    Besides, there's no passport renewal I think, so it's always req. to get a new one anyway.
