I asked this at work once but it was 2 items.  The consensus was beef and potatoes.  MY q was the 2 food items you would want on a alien planet.  The bovine has many uses as well does the potatoe.

HMMM I guess I would say pasta of any kind or rice of any kind

I would have hamburgers. This way, I could have a circle: three slices of tomatoes one day, three pieces of meat for the second, and six pieces of bread for the third day. This would both give me variety I need, and be legal within the limits of your question;)
