  1. The above answer is correct.  Just want to suggest you can submit a brief explanation to the credit reporting agencies to be included with your report.  It will at least show you are trying.

    Recent credit is more important that distant episodes.  Work hard to keep your credit sterling from now on.  Then you can show you had a problem and overcame it.


  2. negative credit entries can stay on your credit report for 7 years..if the bills werent in collections for too long you might be able to ask them to remove it as a negative, not sure they will but its worth a shot
