Air conditioning or a library would be my first choices. If there were not libraries I don't know where I would work. I love air conditioning in the heat of the summer. I wouldn't mind being cold but I can't stand being hot while working on projects or reading.

I think I'll take air conditioning.  Not only can it be used to keep me comfy in the summer, but you could turn it way down and make a refrigerator out of it if you wanted to.

I could deal with building a fire to make my own hot water, personally.  Just give me some A/C and I'll turn it down cold enough to be able to hang meat in there when I feel like it.
