  1. Panic, let out a really high pitched scream and pee yourself.  Works every time.  Sucks if it turns out to have been your imagination.

  2. Ignore it and don't really care unless it is a decent size, has a hammerhead or is acting aggressively.

Depends were you are surfing, but most sharks are not going to bother you.

  3. You might have a problem getting people to believe you. They might just think you're trying to get them out of the water, or that you mistook a dolphin splashing around for a shark.

  4. Hmmmm, perhaps the mad paddle into the beach and then up the beach and part way into the car park might do it...

  5. Just shout out shark and then start to paddle in. In most cases sharks aren't going to attack and if they do it's a case of mistaken identity. they think the boards are seals. stay calm and you should be fine.

  6. **** id just swim away and yell shark

  7. Just one more reason why so many of us hate to surf with inexperienced surfers. You say something direct, like, "hey guys, there is a shark." If you have any sense, you just casually paddle in. Or, depending on what you end up seeing, ignore it. It isn't the shark you see that eats you, it is the shark you didn't see.

  8. Well, if there are others in the lineup, thats good news. Because now you don't have to out run the shark, just the other surfers.

But seriously. I don't think sharks can hear, but they can detect vibrations. Obviously you don't want to splash around or anything, probably just call out to the other surfers.

Of course, unless you live in Florida, and even so, sharks are relatively rare. I think I read somewhere that if the shark's fin is above water, you should paddle in at a normal rate, and keep constant watch on the fin. I've heard people say that hitting the shark (if it attacks) works. Hitting it with the blunt of your fist, sharks are especially sensative around their gills, and there are always the eyes, which every animal is protective. If you are really worried about sharks, there's a lot more information by means of google you could find. Good luck, stay whole.

  9. stay calm and yell for help and try to get away as fast as u can
