can someone please explain how to work this problem? i am totally confused about this homework!

  1. Use avogardos number http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avogadro's_...

    # moles = # molecules/ avogardos number

    # moles= 3.011x10^23/6.02214x10^23 = approx 0.5

    approximately 0.5 moles

    the mass =( # moles)*(molar mass)

    molar mass carbon = 12.0107 g/mol http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon

    mass=0.5*12.0107=6 grams carbon
