  1. not unless you want to

  2. No you don't... If you do though make sure you install a filter before you plug your phone into a Jack, they should have came with the modem "kit".

DSL without phone lines where I am from (Illinois) run approx $35 for 6 mbps upstream.

  3. You can get a 'dry' DSL service, saving some money on a phone/DSL line. But anyway, you need to 'split' the connection where you plug your phone in. (Radio shack) A plug that goes in the wall, with two female jacks on the back of it. If you have more than one jack, make sure you have a DSL filter in your PHONE connection. The computer DSL connection must be direct, with NO DSL filter. If you use one of those little 'splitters' just make sure the wire to the computer has no filter. The wire to the phone HAS a filter. (DRY DSL service can save you from $20 to $30 a month for 768 Mbps service.)

  4. No. You don't even need to own a phone for DSL to function. There is DSL without phone service available, but it's expensive.

Just install the line filters where needed, observing the connections carefully, make sure to send the right signal to the right device.
