If you have SD TV do you need the converter box?

We can't get a picture without an antenna, but when we use the antenna we get the digital channels. Will we need the coverter box? Will it improve our ability to get channels if we don't technically need it? We get the Digital Signal Weak message a lot and the picture freezes.

  1. If you are getting a digital signal weak message, that seems to imply that you have a digital TV.  If that's the case, then you do not need a converter box.  I suppose there is some possibility that the tuner in a converter box is somehow better than the one in your TV, but I don't think that's likely.

Therefore, your only hope is to get a better antenna or better aim the antenna you have.  If you're using rabbit ears now, then a properly aimed roof antenna will probably help.  The link below will help with aiming.  Read and follow the links in the fine print to get the info you need to fill out the boxes.
