what would be the next step into becoming a teacher?

You need to find a School with a good elementary education or secondary education program and apply to that program. Then you would start working on your bachelors in that specific area of study.  You would do class work for a year and then do student teaching for like half a year. Most good eled programs are hard to get into so apply early.
