Or can you prevent having to get a root canal by taking great care of that cavity?

Yes, the cavity now has a white filling.

  1. The idea behind filling a cavity is to prevent the need for  Root Canal treatment. If you wait long enough, it is very possible that the tooth decay will reach the nerve. Good thing you had the filling done before you had problems.All fillings will break down over time and need to be replaced, but, if you keep regular dental visits, your dentist will keep an eye on things and let you know if it is time to replace things before they become a problem.


  2. As long as the dentist cleared out the cavity and filled all of it correctly, you will not need a root canal on that tooth.

  4. you obviously don't know what a root canal is. it's for deep cavities that have hit the nerve. the decay is already gone. crisis over.
