My son has his learners permit in the state of California and his dad lives in Nevada, and he lets him drive when he visits there. Is this legal? My son is not quite 17 yet.

  1. Generally speaking no, permits, unlike licenses which are recognized by all the states, DC and US territories are not recognized outside the state they were issued in.  But if dad lets him drive dad will be in the car, and dad will get the ticket if he gets stopped.

  2. Yes. If his father has a valid drivers license & is in the front seat next to his son while his son is driving the vehicle. Nevada will recognize the permit.  I had a son with a permit when I lived in Las Vegas &  he drove my vehicle while I sat in the front seat next to him. Never had a problem
