The Derby City Classic has been held at Excuitive West Hotel for all of it's 10 years, now they move it to the Horseshoe casino (formerly Ceasers) which is about located 10 miles from dowtown Louisville KY in southern IN.down a two lane Hwy. in the middle of nowhere.

There is going to be a lot of upset players when they arrive and relise they can't get a room within ten miles of the tourniment site. I hope I'm wrong but, I Think the next DCC is going to be a major let down.

  1. t might upset a few players, if there is no hotel n the casino, or within 10 miles. maybe the 10 minute ride down a desolite road, might relax a few players b4 their match, who knows? i really can't see it making a dent in the dcc. it's so established, and it is 1 week the players really look foreward to. i just googled this http://www.insideindianabusiness.com/new... it does have 500 rooms. i havn't been well enough to make the trip the last 3 years, but hopefully will make the next dcc. good chance of my cousin making the trek with me, now that it's in the new casino. he speciality is high steaks cash games. he has won some decent sized tournys, but he would rather play from 30/60-100/200 limit full ring(full table) , which we will travel together soon, and he does his thing, while i do mine. reason i mention this is it might bring in more high steaks sweatters, that will sweat, and bet the matches, without much knowledge of the players? not sure, i never been to a casino tourny. just some thoughts, but yes, i hope it doesn't affect the dcc, but i don't really seeing it affecting it. never know it might enhance it? again just some thoughts, good question though!

  2. Aside from a few disgruntled spectators, I don't believe the players will mind nearly as much. Players are used to traveling the country and the world to play in tournaments. Their arrangements are well taken care of by their sponsors.

I don't think that the DCC will be a 'let down' at all for the players. I think they'll be excited and geared-up for the event, no matter where it is to be held.

Horseshoe Regional President and General Manager Rick Mazer says the new casino is strategically placed to draw customers from Kentucky and Indiana. Of course it's all about business and 'the mighty dollar'. Just the same..... lead a pool player to an event, and he/she WILL play.

  3. Likely their contract with the Executive ran out and they had to change venues.  It happens.  I wouldn't be upset if it were me....I would be there for the tournament and it wouldn't matter where it was to me.

  4. My understanding was that there wasn't much of an option for the guys running it. The Executive West is undergoing renovations and it would severely reduce the amount of space available for the tournament (ie: fewer tables). In addition, the hotel was going to increase the prices beyond what the organizer believed was a good deal for the players and spectators. I'm not sure if the hotel is/was under new management, but that could have also played a part.

Edit: Here's a decent article that just came up:

  5. Spectators maybe but not the players

I remember when Fats had his Hustlers Tourns .We slept in our cars I dont think you could keep the real players away from a series of games like those if they were played in a barn.

And the distance a lot  come from to play 10 miles aint going to make or break it

See you there Hope they have Motorcycle Parking-Johnny
