If you have a hollowed out catalytic converter, will it throw codes if... ?

the o2 sensor is way before it (right after the headers) ?

and the car is a late 80's vehicle ?

  1. i did it before. it won,t throw codes as long as you leave the 02 sensor be. just gut it out if you don,t have emissions in your state.


  2. No code will be showing on the older vehicle.  Although, you will have to buy new converter when it is time to smog the vehicle.  They are not cheap either and can not buy use converter from a wrecking yard.

    Its something to think about...

  3. Nope old vehicles like that with the only O2 sensor before the cat will never give you any hassle from gutting the cat.

  4. If there is no O2 sensor behind the cat, then it wont throw a code because it has nothing to read.

  5. No, it should not set any codes..

    However to truly hollow out the converter, you have to cut it open and take all of the screens out then weld it back together. Taking out the BB's alone really doesnt do much.

    Been there done that.
