I have my dvd player a few years. Its an old one that plays videos and dvds. Over the past few months is has been playing up. It has been turning itself off during films and now a dvd and a video are stuck in it. It is turned on but it wont turn off unless I unplug it. It wont do anything when I press the buttons or use the remote. How do I get the dvd out? Is my dvd player past its time or can I get it fixed??? The make is JVC by the way.

  1. If the DVD player truly went belly-up, then removing the DVD is just a question of the most fun way of getting the DVD player apart (assuming you dont want to donate or give the parts away).  Otherwise sometimes slipping a think object between the tray and the player can pry open the disk tray without ruining the gears and opening mechanism. Depending on what type of DVD player it is, perhaps junking it isnt the best idea (if there are exellent features and it is a simple hardware error).

best of luck! try a butter knife or something.

  2. Considering DVD players are now less than $100 and some are less than $50 it makes no sense to fix your old one.  It would cost more to fix than buying a new one.

As for removing the stuck dvd, since you are going to junk it, I would either take it apart with a screwdriver or pry open the drawer.
