  1. Why not keep the hermit crabs? I have some and I wouldn't say they're exactly high-maintenance.

Anyway, yes, guinea pigs can be allowed to run around - they really benefit from the exercise.

However, you'll need to be prepared to clean up "accidents," since they really can't be potty trained. When I let my guinea pigs out, I put down towels in corners and in places that they're more likely to "go potty," but sometimes they still do get to the carpet - I keep a spray bottle with diluted vinegar handy.

Also, you'd need to "guinea pig proof" your room. They love to chew, so if anything is plugged in, either unplug it and hide the cord or get plastic tubing to cover the cords and keep the pigs from chewing through them. I think they sell it at Home Depot.

Since they chew so much, also hide anything that you don't want to end up with teeth marks in it. Mine especially like paperback books.

If you're considering guinea pigs (get two! they'll be happier), here are a few sites to check out if you haven't already:

  2. Ya but but all wires out of reach and make it safe for him. And close all doors so he doesn't run away.

    Good Luck! = )

  3. Yes you can. I do it all the time with my Guinea pig. He Loves it!! It's something to do instead of sitting in his cage all day and night. The only problem is you have to watch them because they'll hid under anything, beds, blankets, and in or under anything they can fit in.While you do this you can't really let him out and go on the computer you'll have to watch him, unless you want a hurt,or lost guinea pig.

  4. Yes, you should probably get a leash, because they can fit in small places, also you can even let your guinea pig (with a leash) walk outside and take him for walks just like a dog!!

  5. Why let your guinea pigs run around your room when they can run around your whole house. Of course you can let them run around in your room. My guinea pigs do it all the time. Just make sure there are no wires that they can chew on. If there are, just block off that area. Some guinea pigs don't chew on wires though. My guinea pigs don't chew on the wires. They also like to go under beds. So if you don't want them to go under your bed, I would block that off. You can buy them a little leash and walk him around your yard, although he will just eat your grass! Good luck!

  6. yes you could but you have to close all the holes in the room and you should get a type of leach well not a leach a harness that they sell in pet smart or pet supermarket or any type of pet store.and you also have to cover any wires in the room because the guinea pig will chew on them and the guinea pig could get electrified if gets to the wire part.

  7. I let mine run around in my room all the time. I dont let him out for more than 30 min. or so because he would probably use the bathroom. They can be potty trained but it takes a lot of time and patience.

  8. Sure! Just keep an eye on him really good so he doesn't get lost somewhere and you can't find him. If you're still uncomfortable about it you can buy one of those clear balls to put him in and he'll run all over your house without you having to watch. That's what I used to do when I had my hamster and guinea pig. They loved it!

  9. Absolutely! As others have said, just block of all the cords and exits and anything alse that could be dangerous. Give him some paperbacks filled with hay to play in.

BUT...please do not put a leash on him or get him a running ball. They are both VERY dangerous for pigs, no matter what the packaging tells you. Guinea pig's back are very fragile and they two items can hurt them.

  10. Well, yes, but make sure there are not electric cords around, or you could put it on a leash. There are special leashes for guinea pigs. Heres one:

    Hope this helps!!!

  11. Btw, thats pretty cool because I have a hermit crab and I'm getting a guinea pig =) But I'm not giving my hermit crab away. Anyways, yes, I would say to watch him and don't let him out of your sight if he is walking around in your room. Also you should consider letting him walk outside with a leash. They are usually tiny and can fit in small places not to mention hide and chew on stuff! So either just watch it very closley or get a leash. Hope this helps!

  12. Yes, of course you can. I always let my guinea pig run around for as long as he wants. But my guinea pig is very good about going to the bathroom. When he has to go he always goes back in his cage and when he is done he comes back out. I didn't have to train him to do this i just got lucky. But anyways, you can let him run as long as you want, just make sure if he goes to the bathroom, you clean it up. Also, you can let them run around your yard too. I always let mine do that. And you can buy a leash for it at the petstore and then you can take them on walks, just like you walk your dogs. If you have anymore questions, you can email me at maddieebbyxx3@yahoo.com.
