Do you just put hot plates on it? If not, what type of protection do you use?

  1. Normally not. You use placemats, wood or cloth even ones made out of twigs.

  2. I definitely wouldn't suggest putting anything hot on a wood table because you will wear in down quicker that way. I suggest putting whatever bowl/pan on top of a cooling rack or oven mit. You can even turn a sauce pan or a cereal bowl upside down and put the hot pan on top of that!! Improvise!

  3. You can get table pads which cover the whole table.  Or you can use trivets to set the hot dishes on or even folded dish towels.  utting hot pots or dishes directly on wood can ruin the finish.
