  1. I just went through the process and was told as long as you have an approved homestudy, it can be submitted any where in the United States.  We reside in the southeast; and our daughter came from the northeast.

  2. Are you talking about a private home study or a home study completed through another child placing agency?  There is a difference.  As a state agency, we have a certain format that we use and I have found it to be more detailed than some home studies ordered by the courts.

For instance, in Texas, if you were not certified through Family and Protective Services, but through another child placing agency in your state, there would be some additional information that would be needed.

Check the web for the state that you live in and contact that CPS office.  That would be your best resource.

  3. As long as you are approved through your state you can adopt from any county in your state

  4. The homestudy is statewide.  If your working with different agencies, it will work to send each one a copy.  If you are going through foster care, you can ask your caseworker to look at children throughout the state.  Many times, your home study will even work for different states, providing your agency works with different states.  Also, it can be updated by the social worker who did it, sometimes with just a phone call.
