If you have been to Erfur or Jena or near by can you give me your opinions of it?

I have been to Erfurt twice and quite liked it ,Jena I have not been but I have also been to Weimar back in 1999 when it was Europäische Kulturhauptstadt..

Weimar to my opinion is a very good example that all the money going to the eastern states of Germany does serve to do something really good.

I would highly recomend a visit there to all my fellow German citizens who still haven't been to the east.

I was there last month,  stayed in Erfurt and in Weimar and visited Jena and several other villages and places that had Castles.

I love the cobblestone roads!!

I was their as well in 1999 and it definately shows where the money went for sure.

Great beautful area, Weimar & Jena, I like Erfurt but it still needs some reconstruction versus the other two.

I have been going since 1990  and will go back almost every year I can!

Erfurt is wonderful now. It is very very much improved since the runification, at it had become so pretty, it's insane. Loads of culture, loads of architecture, beautiful cathedral, very good shopping, check out the cute "Krämerbrücke" in downtown with lots of art-shops and old-fashioned sweet shop (at least they had one when I was last there), very nice shopping area, just gorgeous downtown, really.

I have not been to Jena that I remember, but I've been to Meinigen and Weimar and Wartburg, and all of them are very pretty and have lots and lots to offer and to see, especially Weimar (Goethe, their park,...). So if you can go there, do it! Definitely!
