  1. How good are you at looking like you belong in a place you don't?    There are communal showers in the sleeping cars for the rooms that don't have them.    Just walk in like you belong there, take a short shower and leave.    No one will know or care.     You have to hold the water button in for water to come out, so all showers will be short.

  2. According to their website, if you get a sleeping accommodations (some, not all) have showers in the room.  Coach seats are just that, however, if you can get through on their number to ask a live person whether there are showers available without purchase of sleeping accommodation, that may be a possibility.  Otherwise, you may have to ask when boarding.

  3. I took the Amtrak from San Antonio, TX to Portland, OR a couple of years ago.  The trip took two days with a layover in LA.  I traveled "reserved coach".  The seats are like big recliners but they weren't the most comfortable.  I brought a pillow and a blanket because they don't furnish you with one!  Coach doesn't get shower facilities.  You could brush your teeth, wash your face, and freshen up in the very small bathroom.  Also, there was a dinning car and a bar car on the train I traveled on.  I brought some snacks and a little Igloo cooler and put a couple of drinks in that.  It was a pretty good trip.  I will definitely get a sleeping car next trip though!
