  1. yes and that was before detasseling came along.

  2. I grew up on a farm and detasseling corn is not a practice in corn production. It was a common practice in producing hybrid corn seed. The type seed most farmers buy to grow corn. There was a hybrid seed producer in the county that I grew up in. Myself and a lot of other young boys had a job detasseling the corn that was used as the female parent of a cross. We road horses between the rows of corn and detasseled from horseback. Today a male sterile line is normally used as the female side of the cross so detasseling is not required in most hybrid seed corn production. But there are some crosses that still require detasseling.

  3. Grew up on one.  No detasseling.  We let the city kids do that.  It was miserable work.

  4. Nope, never did that.  It seems like a waste of time.

  5. Nope. With advances in technology, there isn't a need to do it.
