The form you received has a list of reasons to be excused....hardship, child care, etc.  However, many times you can simply call and get a temporary postponement.

In most states, jury duty can be postponed, but not avoided. Short of being ineligible to serve, getting dismissed is very difficult.

Sometimes it is easier to show up and get dismissed from serving, by claiming you can not be impartial once you have heard the basics of the case.

You generally can't get out of it all together, but you can tell them that you know lots of police officers or dislike people of a certain race or have strong political views regarding the death penalty or the like when they interview you for the jury.

But why get out of it?  It's paid time off from work.

Act really eager and say that they picked the right person , because "You can spot a guilty person , just like that (snap)."

if you are an only mom or a stay at home mom with little kids you can sometimes get out of it.

also if you are caring for an older relative(like...old old and you need proof that they depend on you)

and if all else fails when they call you up to answer questions keep saying "What?" and act like your hard of hearing....

Yes, one time my husband died and I had a business, the next time I couldnt drive because my license was suspended.

But I don't recommend these excuses just to get out of jury duty.

I suffer from panic attacks from being in war.

Tell them you are a felon.

Yes, it worked.  I told them I was in Iraq, which of course was true.
