Specifically from the beginning of the poem to laisse 158 where Guerri vows to avenge his nephew Raoul's death, who is ultimately considered the hero, Raoul or Bernier, and why? Thanks in advance!

  1. You can really argue it either way. When I read it, I saw Raoul as the victim of the poem, trying to reclaim what was rightfully his (although he went about it in what seems like an evil way). Even though the King Louis didn't play a big role, he was the villain because he was what caused Raoul to become evil, and he caused the battle in general. Bernier is the hero because he was willing to give up his friendship with Raoul to avenge the death of his mother and to fight for the greater good.
