  1. It all depends on the running shoes themselves and the previous shoes you have run with.  I know that I used to wear a pair of basketball shoes(reebok iversons) when i went running, and i didnt really feel any pain or anything while running.  But when I purchased Nike running shoes designed for running i immediately noticed a difference in comfort.  The most notable difference was in the soles of my feet. So it all depends on the shoes you are used to, and even if you don't notice a difference yourself, the shoes are definitely helping your feet from long term damage and problems.
