If you have the Steel Golem out can you still play artifact creatures?

The Steel Golem's effect says that while it's in play you can't play creatures.

  1. then no because a artifact creature is still a creature its a combo of the two.

    that would be a great card for countering decks that rely on number of creatures.

    though it cant get rid of creatures that have already been played before it came out.


  2. The first guy is right, but a good way around it is

    soul foundry[Imprint - When Soul Foundry comes into play, you may remove a creature card in your hand from the game. (The removed card is imprinted on this artifact.) X, T: Put a creature token into play that's a copy of the imprinted creature card. X is the converted mana cost]        

    and cards like

    one dozen eyes[Choose one - Put a 5/5 green Beast creature token into play; or put five 1/1 green Insect creature tokens into play. Entwine GGG (Choose both if you pay the entwine cost.)  ] and Thallids that way your not actually playing the creatures.

    If you want to be mean you could donate the golem to your opponent for a bit of an annoyance :)
