I'm an airplane pilot and I will stay a fixed winger for life, but I would like to hear what others have to say about their preferences.

  1. i prefer helicopters myself, think about it, the ability to stop and hover in mid-air!!!!!

  2. Im not a big fan of helicopters.. although i wouldnt be opposed to taking a ride in one.. but ill be a fixed winger for life..

In a helicopter, when an engine takes a sh*t, so will you. atleast in a plane, ill have time to clean myself up before i make a safe landing

  3. They are both equally valid. It's not like there is one that's always better, they are just different and each one will appeal to different people. The only thing that matters is which one is best for YOU. They are both fun, they are both challenging, they are both very safe, and both require a lot of skill. Anyone who knocks one or the other does so only out of ignorance. Airplane pilots and helicopter pilots are equal, as are the pilots who fly both.

Forgive the cliche, but different strokes for different folks.

For me, I only fly helicopters and I wouldn't trade my experience in them for anything. I don't have any plans to fly fixed-wing.

  4. no no no no

I am a pilot for jetBlue. In my training I flew a helicopter, now hovering in midair isn't fun at all. It is more joy to fly airplanes....plus it pays better for commercial.

  5. Airplanes are MUCH cheaper to own and maintain.  If you are going commercial, there are a lot more jobs flying airplanes.  I've put many hours in both.  I enjoyed my time in helicopters, but truthfully they are EXTREMELY costly to own and operate.  Airplanes can be owned by just about anyone, helicopters are not owned by anyone but corporations and EXTREMELY wealthy individuals.  A friend of mine was going to rent a helicopter to fly on a weekend until we found out how much an hour it cost.  OUCH!!!

With a choice of both I'd have to pick being a fixed wing pilot!  With the exception that I I lived in Alaska and money was no object, I'd chose rotary!

  6. i would want to be airplane pilot becuz its cooler especialy fighter planes they can hover too just like the f-35 and av-8

  7. Im an airplane man through and through. Ya, helicopters are alright, I guess. But, theres just something about having to taxi to th runway then being pushed up against your seat taking off. Also, landing is very fun! Hope this helps.

  8. airplane. fixed wing FTW!

  9. Fixed wing (Airlines) for the money and prestige

Helicopters for the fun, challenge and adventure

  10. I wanted to take helicopter training.  I asked my fixed wing flight instructor.  He warned me that

    (1) it is very expensive to learn

    (2) very expensive to fly recreationally

    (3) does NOT pay well, if I ever go commercial.

    Good Luck...

  11. when i am an adult I plan to fly both
