  1. You could not buy the stock in 1980.

    Microsoft's initial public offering was March 13, 1986. The offering price was $21 per share. The stock has split 9 times.

    Each share purchased at the IPO is not 288 shares.

    If you had bought 5 shares at the IPO they would have cost $105.  MSFT is currently trading at $25.72, so your investment would be worth

    5 x 288 x 25.72 = $37,036.80

    Wind power is not the new Microsoft. Microsoft signed an exclusive agreement to supply an operating system for IBM personal computers, giving it a near monopoly. No wind power company has a similar advantage.
