  1. no link here but yes you can. I'd moonlight as a nurse up to 24 hours a week when I was AD.  You'll be forced to sign a disclosure to how much time you work to your command.  But generally it's fine as long as you have time, and it's no more than 24 hours a week.

edit because it's necessary:  Why the h**l do some of you answer when you have ZERO clue how the Army works?  I mean d**n, why cause waves in clarity when the answer is simple?  I'm not alway right--but I'll be d**n if I'll answer anything just to see my letters/words form a sentence.

On topic:  duh, of course the reserves/national guard will allow for civilian employment.  They're supposed to by design.  Yes, you're supposed to get permission from the command.  Hence the agreement you sign between COC and soldier.

And you don't have to work TWO jobs if you're an E6.  What kind of idiotic generlization is that?  I don't usually get pissed when I see answers like this but some of the questions around here ARE important.

Give the question(er) the courtesy of quality information.  To the Q, I'm sorry for the rant.

  2. with command permission yes.  NOT allowed during any Schooling.

Lots of guys have part time jobs as like pizza delivery drivers.

some commands do not permit it at all, others make you get Qual'd in your workspace first.

  3. what are your duties, it pretty much depends on your duties and branch of military. Just ask your recruiter h'll know for sure.

  4. Yes but you have to get permission to do so from your chain and it can't be in a dangerous line of duty like security guard, etc.

  5. yup.  my fiance's been doing it for three years.  if you're NG or Reserves, you can definitely work a different job and you legally need to be given the time off to report/drill and retain your job when you finish.  however, you may find that working with your unit or on base would be better in the long run with money/benefits.

  6. you can but you need to get permission from your chain of command, if you are not a S**t bag they will just tell you, or give you a formal counseling, that the Army comes first and they are not required to let you go from work early just to go to a second job.  Lots of soldiers do it.

  7. Most of the time as soon as you learn your job in tech school, and you get to your new duty station you will have additional 'job' training.  In the AF they are called CDC's.  You usually cannot have a civilian job until you have passed all those, and even then you might have to get special permission from your supervisor.

  8. If you have a family you will need to work 2 jobs.  I knew E-6's who had to work 2 jobs.

  9. Yes, I worked second part time jobs back in the 70's.  Many military here in S.E. Virginia do. The employers make allowances for their active duty part time employees' duty days.  I just gave my employees my duty days and they assigned my work days accordingly.  Some commands require you to put in a request to have a part time job after hours.

Keep in mind, the military job comes first.

  10. Yes you can. Got to get permission first. When I was in the Navy I worked at a grocery store and Blockbuster. They usually are ok with it as long as it is not a Bar or something that would conflict with the integrity of your duty.

  11. Only if your a reservist though
