what are it's "powers" so to speak? I know that ganesh is supposed to get rid of obstacles and has to do with intelligence, is that what it does if you have a statue of him in your room?

  1. Supposedly, it will rid you of bad luck and will smoothen up your problems. Personally, to me it will lighten the weight of my wallet and make my room smaller and seems full of stuffs. I believe that good fortune won't came from a statue, it came from our efforts and hard work.

  2. Ganesha is the remover of obstacles.

Just having the statue won't do anything for you.  Do research on how you can petition Ganesha for help.

  3. i'm not familiar and don't have idea about ganesh statue

  4. Ganesha is an important deity and it is one of the very earliest of deities depicted in India. He is associated with the mystic syllable Om and is a deity related to beginnings and boundaries in space. His image is placed at the entrances of homes to protect the entrance and he is thought to remove obstacles and provide good fortune. But as another person remarked--he isn't a 4-leaf clover or a good luck charm; he is a god. His father is divine consciousness (Shiva) and his mother is Mother Nature/the divine energy of manifestation (Parvati/Shakti) so perhaps he represents their blessing and protection and also represents life itself. He doesn't "do" things; he represents and idea about the nature of  God and the universe..

  5. Nothing. Its just provides an auspicious start to any activity, according to Hindu belief. Think of it as a Hindu good luck charm (however, ganesha is a real god figure, not a 4-leaf clover. its just that he doubles as a good luck deity as well).
