  1. If Macys have a sale on, that's a good place, because you also get an 11% international visitors discount card [just ask anyone when you go in, you just need to take your passport to prove where you live]. Same goes for Bloomingdales too. Near the ground zero site there is a shop called Century 21 that sells designer clothes & accessories at knock down prices.

Sights are many, including Rockerfeller Centre, Empire State Building, Times Square, Central Park and take a trip to Ellis Island to see if any of your ancestors landed there. Great view of the Statue of Liberty from there too.

As for tipping, if you get good service you can give about 20% or more. Tipping is more for the waiters benefit, as they rely on that to get a decent salary.

You'll have a great time there - it's a fantastic place to visit.

  2. century 21 is an outlet mall in new york that do knock down prices on designer gear... as for tipping its usually like this

    doormen $1

    bellboys  $1 for every bag

    Bar staff $1 per drink

    restaurants i think its 20%

as for the sights get on the tour bus its about $50 for a 3 day ticket and that includes a night time tour of the skyline its well worth the dosh

  3. if you're looking for knock-off designer brands china town is your best bet, also there are outlets outside of Manhattan,  like Woodbury Commons

if you've never been to Manhattan, these are a few of the kinda typical sites people see:

-Empire State Building: you have to wait a while usually, but if the view is your thing it's worth it

-Statue of Liberty: I personally wouldn't bother with the boats that bring you really close, just take the ferry, it's free and much faster

-Ellis Island: personally I've never been, but i hear it's interesting

-The Met, Museum of Natural History

    -Macy's, Bloomingdale's, Barneys

    -SoHo

    -Central Park

    -Rockefeller Center, NBC Studios

It might be in your best interest to take one of those tour buses, they'll drop you at most of these places

As for tipping, it's normally 15% for decent service, 20% for better service in restaurants

For Taxi's it's kinda up to you, $2.00-$3.00 maybe

    good luck

  4. Century 21 is the best place on Manhattan to buy designer items, while you are there you must cross the road and pay your respects at Ground Zero. Take a boat trip around Manhattan, stopping off at Ellis Island. Central Park, Times Square, China Town, Grand Central Station concourse is amazing,The list is endless I'm a regular visitor to NY and am still finding new places to visit

Tip cabbies, doormen, waiting staff, bar staff, 10% is the norm, these people get taxed on their tips which is estimated in advance
