If you know about laptops, and how they work-?

My laptop broke at the hinge, one of the opening hinges came off and now two wires are exposed, and it's hanging by them. One is thin and one is thick, what are those wires for? How can I fix this? Can I use tape? Will they eventually snap or are they strong enough to last? It's missing an entire piece so I can never fully fix it, what should I do?

  1. One is most likely the data cable for the screen and the other is the arial for the built in wireless. I would use some electrical tape on the bit that is exposed, it will make it a bit stronger and cover them up a bit better. Try and fix the hinge as best you can or take it to computer shop to see if they can fix it for you.

Some of the laptop cases are just plastic that they s***w the hinge in to, there is already quite a bit of force on the hinge, if they start to seize up a bit they start to crack the case, iv seen it happen a few times.

Some of the shops can get or already have new housing that they might be able to put on for you.

    Good luck

  2. They're the wires used to send an image to your screen, like the cable on a monitor. If it breaks and you dont have a VGA output on your laptop, you're stuck. I'd get all important data backed up elsewhere, and start saving for a new laptop.

  3. Sounds like you need to replace your bezels and frame housing. Should be pretty unexpensive if you can find one for your make and model. here's one i found for a powerbook on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/Apple-PowerBook-G4-1...

Maybe your model and make of computer has a replacement part for the hinges only.

The wires that are exposed should be ok, as long as you don't forcefully pull on them or something.

  4. go to your manufacturers website and download the service manual for your laptop, will have complete dis-assembly instructions. you can get hinges off of ebay and repair it yourself.

most laptops have a monitor output so you can hook up any computer monitor if it  so there is no urgent need to back up your hard drive. video wires are normally on a thin plastic ribbon. the wires you see may be wires to the inverter to power the laptop screen. I would suggest keeping your laptop stable, ductape for now until you can repare it, use it least as you can, don't take it places.

  5. basicaly ur talking about the serials used to transmit data to your LCD or electric cables to lighten your LCD (if those wires go towards the LCD) what bigest would hapen is you wont get a display or unlightened display if wires are disconected.

if it doesnt go towards your LCD the most probabbly its ordinary data cables to your drives or power from power supply region (now you cannot afford to play with these wires then! im not sure if you can change your laptop case. but itz normal to keep using it AWAY FROM YOUR FRIENDS! you might be ashamed to use a broken c**p in front of them!
