  1. Unschooling is not having a set curriculum and basically letting your children learn through their environment etc. They supposedly learn to read and write when they say they're ready!

I don't know where you live (US/UK? etc). In the UK you can just home ed your children and not let the LEA know. You can do whatever curriculums you want! If you're US I don't know!

  2. We are not unschoolers but we are a little more relaxed than other types of homeschooling. We really focus on math, spelling and the arts butoften science will be student led.For example a child wants to learn about the human body so we'll get books, models, make a skeleton until it gets boring and then maybe move on to memorizing the periodic table. If the subject of gravity comes up we'll look at that and discussing Newton maybe write  a biography.Hope that explains it a bit

  3. Unschooling is just letting them "teach" themselves through life experience.  Hard-core unschoolers will Not give assignments or even provide formal learning opportunities.  They simply let the kids run amuk and use techniques like "strewing" (literally planting educational materials like books and game, lying around-in hopes that they will be used).

There is also eclectic homeschooling, which draws from all the other techniques where they "fit" your situation.

The rules vary from state to state on homeschooling.  Some are very easy and only require that you notify the local school board and take attendance, while others require you to jump through many hoops, including presenting your kid's learning portfolio to someone.  The HSLDA has a website with state by state info.

  4. Here's some info about unschooling along with links to other places you can find info:

    Hope that helps!
