I'm still a white belt (have only taken 3 classes) in Tae Kwon Do but my friend (black belt) showed me how to do a tornado kick and I picked up rather quickly...

  1. doesn't matter by belt. As long as you can do it, then you can do it. I've seen yellow belts do ax kicks, doubles, you name it.

  2. That doesn't really mean anything. At orange belt when i saw someone do it i could replicate it already.

You have to know how to discipline yourself, have patience, be in control, and know your moves and forms, as well as knowing how to use them when the time comes.

  3. Two youth (7 and 8 yrs.) mma fighters I know who have no belts can throw a tornado kick that will make you think your leg, ribs, or head is in pieces. It's simply put, monkey see, monkey works his butt off practicing it , monkey do. If you watch WEC on Versus channel or UFC on Spike TV ntwork, you can see a wide variety of mma strikes, takedowns, submissions, ect. and ANY of them can be taught to a beginner and can be really used in the ring, cage, street fight, wherever. A neck crank, flying knee, or a tornado kick hurts wherever your dojo, ryu, mma center, garage, high school, college or home may be.

  4. get out of tae kwon do.. seriously its focused on kicking, and  dosent really teach the application of the usefull techniques you might learn

I took it for almost 10 years, and I looked like I knew what I was doing, untill I spared with some one who knew how to fight for real. He cought my first move and had me on back in an arm bar. I'm now trying to learn judo and jui jitsu with a little boxing.

  5. The big questions are:

Can you hit a small target with FORCE and PRECISION at the end of the kick?

    AND

Can you land and be immediately ready to continue from a balanced, focused position with your eyes still on the target?

Being able to spin in the air doesn't mean squat!

  6. You'd be at least a Guile. Maybe not a Ryu, but you're getting there. Keep reaching for the stars.

  7. to do this kick effectively--red/brn belt. the movements are easy try hitting the heavy bag and see what happens.

  8. yeah a lot of times people have a natural athletic ability and can pick up techniques more quicly than others.  Belt ranking is usually to determine senority and status in tratidtional martial arts and give a base level of determination of what technique to be teaching.   In combat sports such as muay tahi mma and kickboxing fundamental techniques are taught and eventually through experience differnet fighters learn to use them with their own style. Use what u know that feels comfortable for you dont be afraind to try new moves during sparing cuz thas when to do it rather than trying untested moves in competition.

  9. I learned when i was green. But usualy they teach it @ brown
