I am installing sounds in my 1966 mustang. Should I cut the back to fit the 6X9? The second question is how do you hook up tweeters? If you must answer just one question answer the tweeter one because I will probably not cut. I’m installing the exact same sound system from my old 66 to my new 66. I was happy with the way it sounded. I just don’t remember how they hooked up the tweeters. All I have is a 15inch speaker box, two 6X9's, two 6.5 round speakers and the two tweeters, and a 4 channel amp. When I went to the sound system shop they want to me to buy this thing that will filter the sound from the tweeter so there is no voice. Like I said I'm happy the way it was I want no more or less. Some people say to hook up the 2 channels of the amp to the box and two channels to the 6X9's. And to hook up the 6.5's to the stereo. But what do I hook the tweeters to? Also some one told me that they could hook up the 6.5's and the 6X9's to the same 2 channels. Could you do that? I think that it was like that because it was loud when I had it. Thank you

  1. You can only hook up your 6.5's and 6x9's into the same channel if your amplifier can handle a 2 ohm load, which it most likely can, but I'd check just to be sure.  and that they tried to sell you is a filter that will filter out the frequencies that will distort a tweeter.  hook the 6.5's and the 6x9's into the amplifier, and the tweeters to the head unit.

Tweeter's can't handle most amplifier outputs, and will blow very quickly with that much power behind them.  Your 6.5's and 6x9's can.

    Here's what you should do.

6.5's in the front, hooked to the front channels of the amp (left and right)

6x9's in the back, hooked to the back channels (left and right)

tweeters in the front, hooked to the front channels of the head unit (left and right)

  2. That car is too nice to mess up.  Don't cut anything!  Fiberglass some nice kick panels and stick a component set in there.  If you must have exta bass ... I'd figure something out that doesn't require major modifications to the car.  You don't want to ruin the integrity of the car.
