If you know how to play billiards, do you basically know how to play pool, too?

If you pit a good pool player against a good billiards player, both playing pool, are they evenly matched? Isn't billiards more difficult than pool?

  1. If you are referring to "Pocket Billiards" v/s "Pool Players" then my answer would be "Yes". Because they are basically the same. However, a player that is not familiar with pocketing balls, which is originally the way billiards was played, will have a very hard time with a player that has mastered the art of pocketing balls. The more common game of "Three cushion billiards" which is played on a standard non-pocket billiard table. Requires a much larger cue ball and the goal is not as focused on aim. This is another good reason that a billiard player would be challenged in playing "pool" against a "pool player". I hope this makes sense.

  2. there the same name

  3. No not really but there are VERY few Billiards only players they would prob have better cue ball control but Im not sure about shot making

  4. The biggest challenge to adjust to might be the strategies between the games. As far as shotmaking and position play go, it's similar in both games. Even billiard players think about where all the balls will be at the end of their shot. Once they get adjusted to the speed of the table and the size and weight of the balls, it's all pretty much the same game. Check out the link below and the rest of the series to see a 9 ball and 3 cushion match between Torbjorn Blohmdahl and Efren Reyes.

  5. If you mean the kind of billiards that is played on a 5 by 10 table with three balls and no pockets, then billiards is much harder, especially 3-cushion billiards.

3C billiard players should know how to play position better than pool players because the object of the 3C game is to make the cue ball go to a specific location.  Also, last I checked the record for consecutive points in a 3C game was about 25 to 30 whereas the record for straight pool is over 150.

In short 3C billiards is good practice for position, kick shots, and getting out of your opponent's safety shot.

    Rack em.

  6. Isn't billiards and pool the same thing?

    It is the same method.

That's like asking,   if you can eat donuts, can I eat bagels ?

  7. yes

billiards and pool are pretty much the same thing, but there are a FEW differances

  8. billards is a much more difficult game

  9. I would say they would be roughly equal if they are both good at what they do even though the 2 games are totally different. At the end of the day its just ball position that wins and you learn good ball position in both the games.
